One of the world’s ultimate road trips, the Garden Route is a treasure chest of verdant winelands, stunning coastal cliffs, beautiful beaches and charming towns. Days 1 - 3 Arrive into Cape Town airport and transfer to Four Rosmead Guest House for a 3-night stay. Your rental car will be dropped off at the hotel the following day. Situated in Oranjezicht, from Four Rosmead you are within walking distance of the National Museum & Art Gallery and the Parliament Buildings, as well as an easy 5 - 10-minute drive from Table Mountain, Camps Bay and the lively V&A Waterfront. Days 4 - 5 A picturesque 1-hour drive takes you to the Cape Winelands, where you’ll check in to Angala Boutique Hotel & Guest House for a 2-night stay. You’ll be perfectly located to explore this celebrated region, touring world-renowned wine estates and sampling first-class cuisine in Franschhoek, which is widely known as South Africa’s culinary capital. The charming towns of Stellenbosch and Paarl are also nearby and are well worth a visit. Days 6 - 7 Continue on to the town of Hermanus. It’s about a 90-minute drive if you take the most direct route, but we recommend taking the more scenic option via Gordons Bay and Bettys Bay. It’ll add 30 minutes to your journey time but you’ll experience one of the most scenic coastal drives in South Africa. Stay two nights at Mosaic Private Sanctuary on the edge of Hermanus Lagoon, where you’ll enjoy the beautiful backdrop of the Overberg Mountains. Hermanus is world famous for whale watching, so get out on the water for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Days 8 - 10 Head east along the famous Garden Route, stopping at Dolphin’s Point for fantastic views out to sea from the headlands and a good chance of a dolphin sighting. Continue to Wilderness where you can stop to walk along the lovely golden sand beach or explore Wilderness National Park. Continue to the pretty seaside town of Knysna where you’ll overnight at The Turbine Boutique Hotel. The next morning, take a drive up to Knysna Heads for the sensational views, before making the half-hour drive to Plettenberg where you’ll stay for two nights at The Plettenberg Hotel, a beautiful boutique hotel with prime views of the stunning coastline. Days 11 - 13 From Plettenberg, divert into Tsitsikamma National Park for a multitude of hiking opportunities, or continue straight on to the Eastern Cape and Kariega Private Game Reserve for a 3-night stay. Perfect for families, as it is malaria free, here you can experience the Big Five, take a river cruise or try a bush walk with an experienced guide.
