Situated on a quiet stretch of the North Riverwalk known as the Museum Reach, Hotel Havana offers elegant accommodations in the heart of San Antonio.
The hotel was originally built in 1914 by a successful local grocer as a residence hotel for his buyers. The name was inspired by the lush riverfront surroundings reminiscent of the Caribbean island city, and the Mediterranean Revival design of the building reflects this influence and the Spanish Colonial architecture of surrounding San Antonio. Hotel Havana's pan-Latin influence pays tribute to the diverse cultural elements of its Cuban namesake, as well as its proximity to Mexico and the roots of its home in San Antonio. The property offers 27 unique rooms ranging from studios to King and Queen Suites to a split level Penthouse.
Hotel Havana is also home to Ocho, a restaurant and lounge space serving drinks and food downstairs in the hotel basement and upstairs on the riverfront. The property was reopened in 2010 by hotelier Liz Lambert and Bunkhouse Group and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
Rooms
From the studios to the Penthouse Suite, each of the 27 rooms at Hotel Havana is uniquely appointed and designed for comfort. All rooms feature original Bastrop pine floors and are decorated with antique furniture, Turkish rugs and vintage Cuban artwork with an emphasis on creating elegant but uncluttered space for a restful stay. Our luxurious bedlinens are custom made and bathrooms are stocked with Red Flower body care products. Each room comes equipped with our signature mini bar featuring local and international snacks, drinks and souvenirs.
Hotel Havana offers an inventive room service menu from breakfast until 10 pm on weekdays and later on weekends, to be served in-room, on the patio or at Ocho, our riverfront restaurant and lounge.
Dining
Inspired by the union of old and new worlds, Ocho lounge at Hotel Havana offers two unique spaces for drinks and small plates on the River Walk in San Antonio. The upstairs Ocho lounge, situated in a glass and steel conservatory reminiscent of a birdcage, opens onto the river and offers seating both indoors and outdoors. The beauty of the steel structure is highlighted in Tiffany blue, with couches and lounge seating filling one side of the luminous space and linen-clothed tables spilling into the courtyard. The downstairs lounge provides a dimly candlelit gathering place with velvet couches and antique leather club chairs suited for intimate meetings and secret rendezvous.
Executive Chef Jason Garcia presents a food, cocktail and wine menu that is rooted in the hotel's pan-Latin cultural influences. The cocktail menu is built around reinvented old school recipes, and highlights the tequila of the hotel's San Antonio roots with the rum of its Cuban homeland. The wine list offers guests a chance to explore lesser known selections from the old world of Spain and France as well as bold new flavours coming from young wine producing regions in South America.
Ocho offers inventive menus for breakfast (recently voted among the Best in Texas in 2011 by Texas Monthly Magazine), lunch, dinner and late night — to be served in-room, on the patio or in the upstairs lounge. From sweet plantain griddle cakes with Mexican crema and blueberries to the huitlacoche quesadillas and the shrimp and crab campachena, the food reflects a new approach to traditional Latin fare with the classic country club as inspiration.
